The potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to profoundly impact health and care services has been a hot topic of discussion globally. There are evangelists who herald AI as a transformative force in healthcare, promising to enhance diagnostic accuracy and speed, streamline and reduce admin tasks, apply predictive and preventative analytics, and therefore overall better patient outcomes.

These possibilities have fuelled extensive discussions in the media, professional and academic circles, and our events. However, beyond the engaged and informed who seek to enhance their knowledge of cutting edge technology is a 1.3m strong workforce who want to see real change in enabling the care they offer patients.

How are we covering the topic of AI at HETT Show 2024?

People & Skills

We’ve seen predictions that AI can replace clinicians within 10 years or that critical admin roles may be replaced by robots. What’s the real impact going to be and how can we drive the circumstances we want to see in our health and care services regarding AI?

On the 24th September at 13:45 we’ll be hosting a discussion on how staff are being considered when it comes to AI.

Developing a Robust Approach to Supporting Staff to Deliver Safe AI Implementation

This panel will cover:

- How will AI change the working lives of clinicians?
- How is the workforce being supported at a national and local level to engage with AI tools and technology?
- With the prevalence of AI hype and scope of tools – how do we build trust and capability within a pressured system?
- Understanding how existing use-cases are impacting specialties and moving to work in building trust

This session will be joined by:

- Chair: Raquel Iniesta, Senior Lecturer in Statistical Learning for Personalised Medicine, Kings College London

Safety & Regulation

Considerations for how AI technologies are being evidenced, the ethics and safety of different tools in different settings is at the forefront of both evangelist and sceptics alike.

On 25th September on our Digital Maturity Forum we’re hosting a discussion that will consider the what experts in ethics, regulation and clinical excellence think:

The Future Framework for Safe AI in Health and Care

This panel will cover:

- What checks, balances, regulation and guidelines are required to enable safe, effective adoption of AI in the NHS
- How do we bring together the siloes of innovation, governance and approach to deliver a robust strategy for utilising AI?
- How can we go beyond bringing together stakeholders and building guidance, and discuss the feedback loops that could create a continuous learning system

This session will be joined by:

- Chair: Avi Mehra, Co-Founder, Doctorpreneurs
- Claire Harrison, Chief Digital & Technology Officer, MHRA
- Robin Carpenter, AI Ethics and Governance Lead, AI Centre for Value Based Healthcare

Deployment & Scaling

Its critical to continue to look to the future and prepare to contend with the widespread use of AI across multiple use-cases and services, but what about the successes that have already taken place in the NHS?

We’re honoured to be joined by the RSM Digital Health Podcast expertly hosted by Dr Anabelle Painter for a LIVE recording of an episode on the reality and lessons from scaling AI in Stroke care.

Join us on the Infrastructure, Data & Cyber Security Theatre at 14:55 for a deep dive.
