Augmented Reality. Clinician-led. Patient-powered.

Every year, thousands of people in the UK are affected by facial palsy, a condition that can result from a wide range of causes, including Bell’s palsy, neurological conditions, trauma, surgery and stroke. While the causes vary, the impact is consistently life-altering.

For many, facial palsy affects not only physical function, but also emotional wellbeing, confidence and the ability to communicate. Access to effective rehabilitation, however, is limited and often fragmented, with services centralised in specialist centres and long waits between appointments.

In some areas of the UK, patients still travel over 18 hours round-trip for a 30-minute consultation, simply because there is no local or remote support available.

Facial Dynamics was built to change that.

Developed in partnership with clinicians, researchers and patients, Facial Dynamics is the first low-cost, accessible tool that enables remote analysis and therapy for facial palsy and tremors using everyday mobile devices.

A New Standard In Remote Facial Rehab

Facial Dynamics combines augmented reality, clinical-grade motion tracking and remote therapy tools in one easy-to-use mobile platform. It’s already in use across forward-thinking NHS teams and is designed to bring facial rehab home, while keeping clinical oversight front and centre.

Here’s how it works:

Mirrorless therapy with Augmented Reality

Our unique AR mask replaces the user’s face with a neutral avatar in real time, removing the distress of visible facial asymmetry. Patients can focus on movement, not appearance, which is a subtle but powerful shift that enhances engagement and emotional safety.

Clinician-assigned movement routines

Therapy plans are designed by specialists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and neuro teams and adapted to each patient’s needs. This ensures high repetition, clinically aligned rehab, whether done in clinic or at home.

Real-time feedback and visual progress tracking

Facial Dynamics monitors 52 facial data points and eye rotation to provide live feedback on movement, symmetry and control. Patients and clinicians can visually track improvements over time, making progress measurable and motivating.

Goal-driven engagement

The platform has been designed to turn small wins into sustained motivation. Clinicians can review performance dashboards and adjust plans, meaning there is no need for in-person reassessments unless clinically necessary.

Built for smartphones and tablets

No specialised hardware needed. No complex setup. Just powerful rehab tools delivered straight to the devices patients already own. This dramatically increases access and reduces cost, a crucial consideration for overstretched services.

Built for the NHS

Facial Dynamics is DTAC aligned, MHRA ready, ISDN supported and co-developed with NHS clinicians. It supports ICS priorities around community rehab, digital inclusion and value-based care.

Why This Matters Now

There is a growing and urgent call from the clinical and patient community: facial rehabilitation must become more accessible, more consistent and more emotionally supportive.

Whether it’s facial weakness due to Bell’s palsy, post-surgical nerve damage, neurological conditions like Parkinson’s, or stroke, all patients deserve effective, compassionate and timely care.

With the NHS facing unprecedented demand and patients waiting months for follow-up appointments, tools like Facial Dynamics don’t just improve care, they protect it. They give clinicians back valuable time, offer patients dignity and autonomy and allow services to scale without compromising quality.

As one Speech and Language Therapist put it:

“Most of my neuro patients have facial weakness. This could help them see progress, target symmetry and stay motivated. They’re already asking for this kind of tool.”

And from a patient:

“This was a half-hour appointment… but over 18 hours door to door. There are no services for facial palsy in Northern Ireland. I’ll keep fighting so others don’t have to travel like this.”

Don’t miss my talk: Can Augmented Reality Encourage Remote Speech & Language Therapy and Facial Retraining?

I’ll be sharing the story behind Facial Dynamics, the challenges faced by patients and clinicians in the current system and how we’re working with NHS partners to build the UK’s first scalable pathway for remote facial rehab.

Join me at the Digitally Empowered Experience Stage at 12:50 on Wednesday 8th October.

Let’s Bring Facial Rehab Home, Together

We built Facial Dynamics because we believe that no patient should be denied effective therapy due to where they live or the conditions they live with. And no clinician should be left without the tools to deliver high-quality care efficiently and compassionately.

Whether you're working in neurology, ENT, stroke services, community rehab or digital transformation, we’d love to talk.

Let’s reimagine facial rehab for the future and let’s start by making it accessible today.
